HOWTO : To install your usb bluetooth Dongle Software

Requirements: Air2U usb bluetooth Class I/II dongle as supplied by MobyMemory

O/S: Windows ME / XP SP1 or earlier

(For Windows XP SP2, do not install any drivers, just plug-and-play..)

A USB Bluetooth Dongle is a wireless device. bluetooth allow you to connect your phone (or another device) to the PC by establishing a wireless network (bit like WiFi).

The advantage of bluetooth is that you can make a wireless connection quickly and automatically (when configured) to your mobile phone, and transfer files between your PC and mobile memory card. Great for moving small files (like photos, screenshots, screensavers, small games etc) quckly and with no wires. Transfer speed performance is not as fast as a USB2 card reader, or a mobile-supplied USB cable .

Lets start by installing the driver software for your Bluetooth USB Dongle (Class I or Class II).

NB. Do not plug your usb bluetooth adapter into your PC yet (this can sometimes cause problems with plug-and-play on Windows systems). we will tell you when to plug it in later on.

1.Step: Insert the USB bluetooth software CD to CD-Rom drive that was supplied by us with your adapter. The software will automatically begin.

2.Step: Click the Genenric 1.4.3.4 option (You can read the other guides supplied with the software first if you wish).

Read the Licence Agreement, than accept the terms of licence agreement, and press NEXT.

3.Step:If you want to select another location where the software will be installed click CHANGE if not than click on NEXT.

4.Step: You are ready to install new software, to continue click INSTALL.

5.Step: Now the installatin process begin. Wait while till files copied to your computer.

6.Step: Now you can plug your bluetooth adapter into the USB port of your PC.

Your computer should recognize the new hardware (and display this message in XP) when it is plugged in.

7.Step: You can access the Bluetooth features on your computer. To continue press NEXT.

8.Step: Now you have to choose Computer name and computer type. When it's done press Next.

9.Step: Wizard configure Bluetooth service. To continue press NEXT.

10.Step: Here you cen configure your services that your computer will offer.

11.Step: If you have another blueetooth device click NEXT otherwise Click Skip.

12.Step: Finally you have done your installation successfuly.Your Bluetooth Dongle is ready to be use.To finish click FINISH.

Your Bluetooth Dongle can be setup and controlled though your " My Bluetooth Places. My bluetooth Places allow you to search for other devices, explore yours or another users files.

We will use this in a series of articles that deal with connecting your specific mobile up to your bluetooth aware PC !

Hope this helps.

Does the default XP bluetooth stack support Audio Gateway? I am asking as I use Windows XP 64-bit Edition, which naturally the Widcomm drivers do not work with.

Yes the chipset in our bluetooth dongles was one of the reference designs used for development & testing of the XP bluetooth stack in Service Pack 2 of Windows XP.

Makes life easier for sure

Problem now fixed.  Managed to persuade my IT dept to install XP SP2.

Also Nokia has released PC Suite 6.6 which doesn't appear to crash, and now supports the standard XP bluetooth stack without modification (no need to install extra software drivers for the Mobymemory dongle).

Just received my memory and dongle - very fast service.

I also can't get my bluetooth working, but with different symptoms to those listed above.

I've got XP PRO SP1 and can't upgrade to SP2 as it's my company PC.

Symptoms as follows :-

I followed the software installation instructions but when it got to step 7 the wizard never appeared, although it said the software had been installed.  I plugged the dongle in when instructed and the installation appeared to complete.

Clicking on bluetooth Places or the system tray icon says that no device can be found.

Going to control_panel/system/device manager shows only one bluetooth dongle, WIDCOMM, Location 0 (BCM92035DGROM), driver version 4.0.1.1300, and that the device is working normally.

Finally, Nokia PCSuite 6.5 shows Bluetooth WIDCOMM as a connection option, but when I try to tick it it says "cannot use the connection type, please check all the needed hardware, software and drivers are available".

Grateful for any ideas.

Cheers,

Paul

the latest nokia pc suite, downloadable from the nokia website, with widcomm and nokia functionalallows you to choose widdcom bluetooth as one of the connection options if you use its connection manager. It defaults to windows bluetooth which does not work, but if you change it and add your phone via the widcomm connection it is fine and then you get the best of both worlds

Having said above that I got the dongle working (on an XP Home box), I have to add a caveat.... it was working with the WIDDCOMM software, but not with Nokia PC Suite (for a 6620). Sync could not find the phone (Windows itself couldn't find the phone). I went back to the Devoce Manager and updated the driver automatically, now I can sync with PC Suite and even access the phone and its memory card through Nokia Phone Browser, send files from/to the phone, etc. I think it's a much neater way to access the phone, and be able to sync. But, now the WIDDCOMM software doesn't see it. I think with XP you're better off not using WIDDCOMM.

I stand corrected!

I got my tenses all mixed up as I was trying to remember how I did it, after I had done it

and of course the various device manager entries were no longer there

my computers however managed to find the driver files on the cd without being pointed to the location, oddly enough

the new entry is much clearer and thus more useful

Perhaps the moderators of this thread would incorporate this problem and its solution into the instructions above.

It seems it is rather common

Thanks for the previous post.... it helped me get connected (same problem).

But, allow me to clarify:

put cd in drive

go to device manager (right-click My Computer, choose Properties, choose Hardware tab, click Device Manager), there are 2 items under bluetooth, a microsoft bluetooth enumerator and another device

double click on this SECOND device and go to driver >>update driver >>choose from a list >>dont search I will choose. Then click Next.

There are 2 entries , the microsoft driver which has the tested logo and underneath it another driver which is the widcomm driver.  choose this SECOND item, click Have Disk and navigate to the bluetooth folder on the CD in the CD drive and install (Autorun.ini) . this has worked for 2 computers now and all the functions appear.

Hope this helps others.

well, yeah thats how i've been using it

I don't quite understand how the photos in the manual were taken on XP (lol) when I have tried it on Home SP1 and Pro SP2 with no success...

The MS drivers are quite limited to the apparent capabilities of the widdcomm software...
I was quite looking forward to that extra functionality!!!

I've read in a few other forums of problems with Widdcomm BT software compatability and certain Dongles (MSI esp), but it's a bit hard to get support from them these days.

Anybody actually managed to get 4.4.3 to work on XP - LET ME KNOW HOW PLS

Thanks for the reply Webby!

zaba,

try removing the WIDCOMM bluetooth drivers, and then reboot your PC. now after it has boot up again, try plugging in your bluetooth adapter.

With any luck the bluetooth driver stack in XP SP2 will activate and be correctly recognized. The white bluetooth icon in your task bar indicates it has initialised correctly.

Now you have to go through the pairing of your PC to your mobile.

In other words, with Windows XP SP2, you should not need to use the driver CD supplied with your bluetooth adapter.

problems, problems... lol.

On Windows XP PRO SP2...

As per instructions, install and 2/3 way through receive prompt to plug in bluetooth adaptor.
Done. Windows locates device. Can now click ok to finish driver installation... Done.

Except, None of "My bluetooth places" buttons work, cursors move momentarilly. That's it.
:. No software setup.

Note on plugging the bluetooth adaptor, XP installs its own device drivers and bluetooth symbol in system tray. Have 2 symbols now. XPBT(white) says active, WiddcommBT(red) says no device found. Can use XP by right clicking XPBT trayicon >'add new bluetooth device' and it locates my phone and does basic send/receive fine.

This is not a firewall issue... same occurs with firewall completely down.

I have tried all types of installs.... no change. ideas??

I found Jon's Guides to be the best resource to get those difficult Widcomm chipset BT adaptor problems sorted out.
